A quiet day before the action begins

Monday 19 May 2025 Today was mostly about final preparations and conserving energy.

I had a skin cancer cut out 11 days ago  in Yeppoon. My first task of the day was to have the stitches removed from the wound. For this very purpose, I had made an appointment at the McDowall Village Medical Centre (in McDowall, Brisbane). Doctor "Wan" saw me for about 1 minute and then declared that the stitches on my shin could come out, and told me that the nurse would do it. There were in fact two nurses, an older one who could have done it in her sleep, and a young one who was learning on the job. The young nurse- Maddy did a pretty good job even though she was obviously a bit nervous. I chatted a bit to calm her down, and it worked! She soon had the twelve stitches out and I was free to go- to the front desk where Kelly the receptionist took $90 off me. Medicare paid some back, and I got out of there. They got home just after 12:30, just as Mikeal and I were about to go get some lunch. Instead we each had chicken on a roll- much cheaper than takeaway Japanese food. After lunch, I repacked my bags. The carry-on bag weighed in at 6.95 KG (the limit is 7.0), with the big bag tipping the scales at 27 KG (3 KG under, but I couldn't find anything else to put in!). Robyn went through a similar exercise and came up with about the same weights. I tried to check in for tomorrw's flight to Singapore, but couldn't. The Emirates website kept telling me that this flight was operated by QANTAS; but it's not! We are flying Emirates tomorrow; so we will check in tomorrow morning at the airport. I also looked at seat allocation for tomorrow's flight. There was one, yes one, unallocated seat in the whole plane (an Airbus A333, with about 280 seats). I don't know which seats we have been given, but I do know that we will not be changing them. Now, we are all just relaxing for a couple of minutes before we go to bed. A taxi has been booked for 7:00 in the morning so I would like to get an early night and a good night's sleep.
